Busy Week

Happy Friday! This has been a rather busy week for me…Tuesday I had a focus group I was participating in, Wednesday, I had a job interview and Thursday, I had another movie screening to attend.

I’m the type of person that loves sharing my opinions and reviews, therefore I actually like to participate in surveys. On Tuesday, I had been scheduled to attend a focus group regarding ice cream (my first focus group, ever). I got there at the scheduled time, excited to relay my opinions on ice cream, and also for the $100 bucks at the end of it all. Well, it didn’t go as planned. When the time came to go into the room where the session was going to be held, everyone was called by name, but me. For what seemed to be the longest 3 minutes of my life I was left sitting in the waiting area alone, with no explanation. Then, a lady came up to me and told me that they had overbooked by 1, and guess who that was?! I was so mad, but the good news was, I was still getting paid! She asked me to wait about 15 minutes to ensure that the people chosen were qualified to continue. I waited 15 minutes and after that I was given an envelope with a $100 dollar bill and on my way home! Woohoo! Easiest $100 I’ve ever made! Lol

Wednesday, I had a job interview about 30 minutes away, of course I took a wrong exit and ended up turning it into a 50 minute commute. Good thing I left super early, so I was able to get to the interview on time. I get to the interview and the lady I spoke to informs me that there is a second position opening up soon (still not posted) and she wanted me to interview for both, the position I was there to interview for and another one. No complaints here! That was good news to me, and definitely helps the odds of being hired. So I interviewed with 2 ladies together, each for a different position. They both seemed down to earth, and great to work with. I thought it went pretty well. Now the worse part if it all, waiting for the decision. They said they would be making a decision by the end of next week, so I’ll be anxiously waiting to hear back until then. Keeping my fingers crossed. 🙂

4-5 starsssThis movie is based on the Stephanie Meyer novel. I haven’t read it so I can’t compare the two. The concept of this movie was really interesting, yet scary. In this movie, the human race has become so appalling that an alien race has invaded our planet and has taken over our bodies to re-introduce essential characteristics such as kindness, honesty and peace. It’s pretty sad to think of the human race getting to this point. You read stories in the news of children killing, people eating each other alive, and the massacres that take place in movie theaters and schools, and you think whether this is already happening.

I thought the movie was good, but there was something about it that I can’t quite put a handle on that I just didn’t love. Maybe I needed to have read the book to have a better understanding of this new world. In my opinion, it’s a good movie, but better as a rental than going to the theater to see. This is supposed to be another series of movies based on Stephanie Meyer novels, so maybe they’ll get better.

I got a call from a temp agency today out of the blue. Someone saw my resume from some jobs that I had applied to in the past and he wanted to see if I was interested in a position they are currently hiring for. Of course, the pay is not the best (just my luck!), but its better than what I have now, nothing. I have to complete some tasks for it, and then I’d just have to participate in a phone interview. So far that’s 3 positions I’m in the running for, so we’ll see how it goes. I’m staying positive, and hoping for a good outcome.

I will keep you posted, but for now, have a great weekend! 🙂

Roller Coaster of Emotions

This has been a crazy week. So far this week I have received a call to participate in a focus group which will pay $100 for 1 hour and 30 minutes of my time and opinions, free screening tickets to see the movie The Host for my husband and I, and most importantly, a job interview.

I’m excited for the interview, but after being on numerous interviews I can’t allow myself to get my hopes up. I will try to stay as positive as I can, but also as realistic as possible. Reality being, that as well as I thought my previous interviews went, I still have yet to receive a job offer.

So right off the bat I already have mixed emotions about this job. I hate that not all jobs post the salary in the ad, because it can be a major let down. Turns out, this job pays way less than I thought it would. So what is someone who is unemployed, has been unemployed for 4 months, and eagerly wanting to get back into the job force to do? Of course, take it if I’m offered it. Anything is better than $0 income and having to resort to work in retail. Now I have nothing against retail, I worked at a retail store while in college and I met great people and actually had fun at work, but after having obtained my bachelor’s degree and still having the student loans to prove it, retail just feels like such a step down, not to mention having to work for minimum wage.

I never thought I would actually miss work as much as I have recently. Not only for the social interaction, and everyday routine, but also for the income. I have been couponing for a number of years, so I have stockpiles of a lot of the things we regularly use, but lately it has definitely helped us stay within our budget. It seems like every time I set foot in the store, everything is increasing in price.

As much as I’m not looking forward to settling for less than I deserve, I am looking forward to having a steady income and being able to continue pushing towards achieving the goals my husband and I have set.

Through difficult times, you learn to see things in a positive light, and for the time being, that’s all I can do.
